Aerial Photography - November 2008.
FWDA contracted to have aerial color infrared photographs and Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) images taken of the entire post to aid the Army in its cleanup efforts. LiDAR measures subtle elevation changes. Images will be added to the Fort Wingate Geographic Information System (GIS) for use by contractors and stakeholders. |
Parcel 1 Fence Sign Removal – November 2008.
The Army removed Department of Army signs on the east, south, and west fences surrounding Parcel 1. Signs were removed because the property has been transferred to the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

Parcel 25 Transfer Process – December 2008.
The Army submitted final environmental documentation to the New Mexico Environment Department (NMED) and the Stakeholders regarding the parcel. Samples were taken near the above ground tank in the northeast corner and tested for pH, chloride, and sulfate.

Building Inventory – Spring 2008
The Army is working with the Tribes and Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) on the disposition of buildings on the Depot. It is anticipated that several buildings will be demolished. |
Parcel 3 – 2008
The kickout area has been delineated and the report documenting the action will be submitted to the Tribes in early 2009. An emergency interim removal action occurred in June/July 2008 to remove unexploded ordnance (UXO) in the arroyo draining from Parcel 3 northward into Parcel 2.

The Improved Conventional Munitions (ICM) waiver was approved. The Class 3 Permit modification for the Corrective Action Management Unit (CAMU) has been reviewed by the Tribes.

Groundwater Monitoring – Spring and Fall 2008
The Army sampled the wells on post for contaminants of potential concern. Results from the spring will be sent to the NMED and Stakeholders in December. The fall results will be sent later. The U.S. Geological Survey performed resistivity and seismic surveys of north central Fort Wingate.

Work plans have been prepared by the Army and reviewed by the Stakeholders and are presently under review by New Mexico and EPA. |
Parcels 4, 5, 6, 23, 24 - 2008
Work Plans are being prepared by the Army. The Stakeholders are presently reviewing plans for parcels 5 and 6.
